Finally gave in and bought a PS3 this past week. Basically for the Blu-Ray player, which after reading that Sony is increasing the price on all players soon, led me to believe that now is the time to grab one. I heard from the salesman that Sony will no longer be producing an 80gb version any more either. I wouldnt be surprised if their 40gb version increased in cost, remember that they are still losing money on each PS3 sold.
When I went to go buy some peripherals for my new PS3 (remote control) I picked up a used copy of Gears of War for my xbox. I guess the movie has been greenlit. Not sure how Gears can get made when Halo is still on hold. Played Gears for about an hour and I was not impressed. Considering the last shooters I have played are Halo3, CoD4, and am halfway through Rainbow Six Vegas2, thats a pretty legit group for a lesser realism game like Gears to compete with for my attention. It sure got a lot of press and hype though so I guess I'll give it a shot after I finish RB6.
For those with new babies or planning for the future, consoles remain the single best choice for an activity while holding a napping baby. The arm cradle just lends itself to also holding the xbox controller. Course if he'd stay asleep after putting him down I could do more active things, but then I couldn't be an xbox achievement whore.
My first Blu-Ray movie purchases were Blade Runner and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Both got 2 thumbs up from Rook for their hidef quality. Blade Runner was awesome. I cant figure out how they can make a 25 year old movie look better than movies released today, even better than current movies in hi def. Its such a dark movie though so perhaps when the colors pop, they really pop. After watching the movie again I'm pretty sure that Belnor is a replicant. I also have the 300 and Spiderman3 (came with the player).
